The first thing to visit is the impressive fortress <strong>La rocca<\/strong>, which was\u00a0built in the 6th century on the ruins of an ancient Etruscan wall. The walls were impenetrable\u00a0and effectively cut Sovana off from their neighbouring cities. Part of the walls has remained as the Etruscans built it, while the fortress\u2019 tower, which is preserved only on two sides, is crowned by the ornate peaked style that can be seen on almost all of the <strong>Aldobrandeschi fortresses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Suggested is also the <strong>Chiesa di Santa Maria<\/strong>, \u00a0famous for its pre- romanesque stone tabernacle, which is the only one of its kind in Tuscany.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, no visit to Savona would be complete without sampling its famous wines, that were already known and appreciated by the Etruscans more than 2000 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Photo Credits: Ale Sannina<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sovana is a medieval tuscan village with a magical atmosphere.
