The island of Elba is famous around the world for harboring French Emperor <strong>Napoleon<\/strong> in 1814 during his exile. \u00a0There are several memories of its glorious past as we visit the island, from the <strong>archaeological findings<\/strong> in its museums to the impressive fortresses and military constructions such as <strong>Castello del Volterraio<\/strong> and then the beautiful <strong>Napoleonic residences<\/strong> of the 1800s such as <strong>Palazzina dei Mulini. <\/strong>In particularlyi, in Portoferraio there are the\u00a0most important fortifications of the island such as<strong class=\"bold-black\">\u00a0Fort Stella<\/strong>, <strong class=\"bold-black\">Fort Falcone<\/strong> and the recently restored <strong class=\"bold-black\">English For<\/strong><strong>t.<\/strong> The English fort is evidence of <strong class=\"bold-black\">Napoleon\u2019s imperial presence<\/strong>. In the beautiful harbor of Portoferraio you can visit the <strong>Martello Tower<\/strong>, which is actually the entrance to the old port.\u00a0However what really makes Elba famous and renowned are its clear and blue sea and beautiful beaches. Infact\u00a0Elba has benefitted from the comfort and tools provided by technology and civilisation without compromising its natural heritage.
