Montecatini Alto is a fraction of the town of Montecatini Terme , featuring a castle of Romanesque origin that was long the seat of the Municipality . In ancient times it was a very large municipality and included the underlying marshy territories the hill . The intervention of the Grand Duke Leopold meant that work began on the recovery and reclamation of the land , the exploitation of the thermal springs meant that it developed the town of Montecatini Terme .
